There are quotes about everything. You’ll find quotes about love, sadness, inspiration, work, life in general, but what gives me inspiration are the quotes about travel, exploring, and adventure. I want to share some of my favorites with you. Here is a list of my top 10 travel quotes. I hope they inspire you as well.

1. “Not all those who wander are lost.” -J.R.R. Tolkien

"Not all those who wander are lost." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Travel Quote

This has become one of my all-time favorite travel quotes in recent years. Often times I’ve found myself wandering around a place with no real destination in mind (I think I get that from my dad) but that doesn’t mean that I’m lost. It means that I’ve made no plans for an end result. I’m trusting the journey of wandering to lead me where I need to be.

2. “Fill your life with adventures, not things. Have stories to tell not stuff to show.” -Unknown

"Fill your life with adventures, not things. Have stories to tell not stuff to show." -Unknown
Travel Quote

Over time, I have learned that it is not things that make me happy. I’ve learned that I am more of a minimalist and am someone who does not function well when there is clutter present. Loved ones have gotten upset with me because I’ve cleared out items in my house and life that are no longer needed and take up space. It’s experiences, adventures, people, that are truly what is important.

3. “It’s a funny thing to come home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what’s changed is you.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

"It's a funny thing to come home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what's changed is you." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Travel Quote

This quote has really resonated with me in recent years. You see, I’ve been away from home for over eight years now and when I return, it’s just as I left it. The people, the town, everything is the same but I feel a little different. I’ve realized over the years that I’m the one who’s changed. I feel that the more I travel and have different experiences, the more I will change and my home will become what’s actually foreign.

4. “Travel while you’re young and able. Don’t worry about the money, just make it work. Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be.” -Unknown

"Travel while you're young and able. Don't worry about the money, just make it work. Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be." -Unknown
Travel Quote

It’s been hard to accept the truth in this quote. I’m older now. I believe I settled down before I was really ready or should have. Now, I want to dig up the roots I’ve planted and immerse myself in travel and new experiences so badly but I let the fear of money hold me back. I’m learning to listen to what this quote says though and just go live.

5. “The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.” -John Muir

"The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark." -John Muir
Travel Quote

Lately, I’ve had big dreams of traveling. I have realized that there is so much that this small-town girl hasn’t seen and now I want to see the world. I needto see the world.

6. “Say yes to new adventures.” -Unknown

"Say yes to new adventures." -Unknown
Travel Quote

Hesitation and worry are part of my life. I’ve always been the person that needs to have a plan and know exactly what I’m doing and what’s going to happen. I am trying to change though, to be the person who just says, “yes” and goes for it. I want to say yes to new adventures.

7. “Travel is never a matter of money but of courage.” -Paolo Coelho

Travel Quote

It stings a bit to read this quote. Money has almost always been my excuse to not travel more often. In reality, I’ve simply been lacking the courage.

8. “Travel not to find yourself but to remember who you’ve been all along.” -Unknown

"Travel not to find yourself but to remember who you've been all along." -Unknown
Travel Quote

My belief is that travel will show me who I really am and what I’m actually capable of. I think the every-day routine and hustle causes us to lose ourselves and our sense of wonder. It isn’t until we’ve been knocked out of that routine or at least step away for a bit, that we truly see ourselves.

9. “To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, to roam the roads of lands remote, to travel is to live.” -Hans Christian Andersen

"To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, to roam the roads of lands remote, to travel is to live." -Hans Christian Andersen
Travel Quote

Travel opens up endless opportunities to learn, achieve, work hard, believe, and to actually live. Why deprive yourself of really living?

10. “Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.” -Asian Proverb

"Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times." -Asian Proverb
Travel Quote

I’m guilty of researching a place or event so much but not actually seeing it with my own eyes. That’s something that I am personally working on and hope to change in my life. For instance, I’ve seen pictures and videos of Aurora Borealis or The Northern Lights for years and they are breathtaking but I know that seeing them in person, even just once, would be an unforgettable experience. A video, picture, book, or a story can’t replace the actual experience.

Okay, so I couldn’t choose just ten quotes. Here are two more that I just couldn’t help but add to the list.

11. “Some beautiful paths can’t be discovered without getting lost.” -Erol Ozan

"Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost." -Erol Ozan
Travel Quote

I don’t think of this quote as just pertaining to travel. Yes, often times getting lost while traveling leads to beautiful destinations and places that you otherwise wouldn’t have found had you made all the right turns. But I also think this quote applies to life. How often have we made a different choice or gotten lost in our lives and thought we had seen our darkest moments only to discover something beautiful? Beautiful things can appear or happen in life just when we’ve lost all hope.

12. “If you never go, you will never know.” -Unknown

"If you never go, you will never know." -Unknown
Travel Quote

Life is uncertain, that’s for certain. However, if we never go anywhere or try anything, then how do we know if we’ll enjoy it or if it’s for us or not?

I hope that these 12 quotes have given you some travel inspiration that fills your heart with a curiosity for travel and adventure. Quotes always seem to do that for me!
